Rare Books and First Editions

The Darkling
[Authorized]

This is a limited Edition, signed and numbered science fantasy book, from Necrominster Press.

Expensive, since it is hand-made with the highest quality materials, you can get a free one, by entering and winning the Contest or Quest. Most of the answers to the contest are on the publisher's website itself. Others you can answer by comparing the [authorized] edition to the original Arkham House First Edition, though both are considered First Editions.

Hand-made, and with a strictly limited edition of 100 Collectors' copies, this leather-bound book, has parchment and textured end-papers, and is unique in its authentication, having its collector's number not only listed in the front along with the author's signature, but printed on the last page and enscribed in an obscure location on the cover itself. No other book has been made like this one. But since you likely can't afford to buy a copy ($200), despite its potential investment, get one for free by winning it. Just be the first to answer the questions correctly in the contest or quest. Click here to visit the Contest page.

Other first editions of significance are usually of the popular books by classic writers, such as Ernest Hemmingway and Margaret Mitchell. But trying to find them in good condition can be a challenge, and the price can skyrocket accordingly. In this same category are other printed materials, though they may not be considered books, such as comics. And, though less well known, high quality leather-bound books for dedicated collectors and investors include those printed with gold-leaf. Many of the more common books, will easily be found in First Edition state since they likely never made it to a second edition. The rarity of the book increases with the volume's age and the media used in its creation, as well as the condition. The primary factor, though, still remains, popularity and whether or not the book is in demand.
